Maybe it’s the long trip at sea, the fog, or even the salt air, but when you get off the boat on Nantucket it often feels like you are stepping into a moment in time.
There are quite a few organizations on the island dedicated to preserving this feeling and the island’s historic qualities. People most often think of the Island’s Historic District Commission, with which people tend to have a conflicting relationship.
We hate it when we can’t put that extension on our house, but we love that pastel colors are more often found in the sky then on the sides of houses.
The Nantucket Preservation Trust, another local non-profit organization, focuses on preserving and celebrating the island’s historic architecture. The Nantucket Preservation Trust organizes events like historic walking tours, which occur every Wednesday and Thursday from June to September at 9:30AM.
Check out the video below of the NPT’s most recent event, a walking tour of historic Nantucket Kitchens.
