The trophy for the Island Cup stayed with the Vineyarders for the fifth season in a row after the big game on Nov 17.
On Saturday November 17, the Nantucket Whalers battled their rival the Martha's Vineyard Vineyarders in the 30th Annual Island Cup, losing 48-6.
Every year, it becomes harder and harder for the Whalers to compete with MVRHS, a school almost three times the size of Nantucket High School. With three fantastic wins in a row behind them, the Whalers hoped to have enough momentum and Whaler Pride to bring back the Island Cup once and for all. Unfortunately, despite the good weather, the sun was not shining Nantucket Whalers during the game. The Vineyarders kept the Whalers off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, resulting in a final score of 48-6.
Martha’s Vineyard now holds the Island Cup strong in their possession for half a decade.
