Boston Pops on Nantucket

For the 11th year The Boston Pops have made a special trip out to Nantucket with their musical allure to entertain 8,000 fans perched on Jetties Beach. Special guests this year included superstar-musician Natalie Cole and the fabulous brass-quintet, Synergy, as part of the line-up.

Gorgeous weather was in order as part of the awesome event on Saturday, August 11th. The end of the night held a special treat for not just the audience at Jetties, but all of Nantucket, with a grand display of fireworks.

Since 1997, The Nantucket Cottage Hospital has taken on the ambitious effort, now with over 500 volunteers, to bring The Boston Pops to the Island every summer.

Chairman of the Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees Margaretta Andrews said, "The community support has been phenomenal....we do not have a chair left at the beach, it's amazing."

Tickets were priced at a very reasonable $30 each for general admission. The show was completely sold out this year.

"This is our key fundraiser for the entire season," said Karen Palmer, Chairman of the Pops on Nantucket event, "The energy and enthusiasm is there. We've broken all of our previous records."

"It's just been a fabulous surge in the community," she continued.
