Fishing Report 7/4
Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters reports that fishing around the island is at its peak right know. Anglers are catching bluefish all around the island. Great Point continues to be one of the best spots. Both blues and stripers are being caught in big numbers on both tides. Speaking stripers, this is the time of year when top water action is at its best. Bottom fishing is a little slow right now. There are plenty of Scup in the harbor and a few black sea bass on the wrecks. The big disappointment is fluke. They have not showed in any great numbers yet. It will probably happen on this next moon.
If you are looking to take the kids out for some dock fishing there are plenty of squid in the marina. Beach fishing is a little harder right now due the nesting Plovers. All the beach closing makes it hard to get to the fish. Try along the outside of the Coatue. There have been a lot of big blues right on top of the beach.
Offshore the action continues to get better with each passing day. There are plenty of tuna east of the island ranging in size from 50 to 200 lbs. South of the island the shark fishing is red hot, lots of big blue sharks with a fair amount of Makos mixed in.
If you want to catch a big bass on light tackle give the Albacore a call 508-228-5074. Bob knows the spots to find them!
Check back every Friday for a new report. –Tee Clarkson
