Big thresher sharks like this one are being caught south of the island this weekend in the Monster Shark Tournament.
There are still lots of bluefish all around the island ranging in size from 3 to 15 lbs according to Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters. The striped bass fishing has slowed some with the hot weather. The best bet is early in the day or at night. Anglers are still catching good number of stripers on light tackle on the outside rips. Remember, if you are fishing outside of 3 miles you must release all stripers. Plenty of sea bass and fluke around.
The tuna fishing is a little slow but should get better after the moon. Lots of sharks south of the island. Bob did his first canyon trip of the year last week. They caught one long fin albacore, 15 yellowfins (most were small) and a nice bigeye tuna about 200lbs. He saw two swordfish but couldn't get them to eat.
Bob is on Martha’s Vineyard this weekend, trying to defend his title in the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament. There are over 200 boats fishing this year. Good luck!
