It’s been another great week of fishing according to Captain Bob Decosta of Albacore Charters. Tons of striped bass and bluefish are available around the island both from the beach and by boat. Bob had big stripers and bluefish on the surface four days in a row off of Sankaty this week. There are still plenty of sea bass on the hard bottom in the sound and east of the island. He caught a 4 lb. 10ozer this week on the rock pile off Squam. The first of the fluke are starting to show with fish up to about five pounds. 0ffshore action is starting to heat up. Some blue sharks were caught south off the island this week. A big thrasher was spotted just off Sconset. The tuna are starting to show off the BC bouy. A friend of Bob’s caught 3 this week. The biggest was about 135lbs. The full moon is the 18th, and we should see a whole new batch of fish flush in with the big tides.
Captain Pete Kaizer of the Althea K says fishing has been “red hot” for him as well. Tons of sand eels, squid and butterfish have the bass and bluefish feeding actively. On a recent charter they caught 25 bass and 50 bluefish in the morning.
Check back next Friday for a new report.-Tee Clarkson
