Captain Bob Decosta shows off one of his catches. Summer 2007.
Hopefully it won’t be long before big bass like this start showing up, but they are not quite here yet. It could be any day according to Captain Pete Kaizer of the Althea K.
Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters says some small stripers are being caught in front of the ponds around the island, mostly off Miacomet and along the south shore. The biggest he has heard of is 26 inches, but he wouldn’t be surprised if someone catches a keeper by this weekend. There are squid in the sound with the draggers off Tuckernuck doing pretty well. Jonis Baker on his boat, Shalako, caught a mess of big mackerel off the west jetty just a few days ago. These will make for great tuna baits later in the summer.
Bob encourages anyone to give it a try this week and reminds us all that “it beats workin’.”
