“Get ready. It’s about to break loose!” says Captain Pete Kaizer of the Althea K. He and his clients boated 25 keeper bass up to 40 inches and 10 bluefish on Thursday morning. Schoolie bass are in Nantucket and Madaket Harbors up to 28 inches. The bluefish are showing up as well.
There are a few big bass around and the squid are getting thick in Nantucket Sound. More squid should equal more big bass. Everything is lining up. The recent SW wind will warm the water and the next set of big tides around the 3rd of June should really trigger the fish.
Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters says the bluefish have started to show up on the north shore of the island. The water is still a little cold for them to really turn on but with a little effort they will bite. He says try Polpis and off Brant Point in the harbor for bass. Sea bass and scup are still being caught on the wrecks in the sound. Every day the fishing should get better. If you haven’t been out yet, don’t wait any longer. This week should be great!
