Nantucket Film Festival

Rob Sulzer

The 12th annual Nantucket Film Festival kicked off Wednesday with several films showing all around the Island.

In addition to the films, the Opening Night Party for the Film Festival was held down at Straight Wharf. Over 300 guests were in attendance for the event enjoying "Director's Cut" Cosmopolitans and fine hors d'oeuvres.

The opening night film, Evening, was shown at The Sconset Casino . The film was preceded by Not Just Another Sign, an eight-minute short on the Compass Rose sign painted at the bottom of Main Street. Evening, directed by Hungarian director Lajos Koltai, "explores the emotional and romantic past of a 65-year-old woman with terminal cancer" according to The Nantucket Film Festival's Web site.

Evening stars Claire Danes, Meryl Streep, and Glenn Close, just to name a few of the A-List celebrities who make an appearance on the silver screen.

Stay tuned to Plum on the web and on Channel 22 throughout the course of the film festival for all of the tinsel in our town. And don't miss Plum's online calendar for every film playing for the festival.
