The Nantucket Farmers and Artisans market has had tremendous success in its first year. The market was organized by Sustainable Nantucket, an organization dedicated to monitoring the island’s development and preserving its future.Christine Silverstein, Executive Director of Sustainable Nantucket said, “We’re trying to hook up with the smaller farmers and we thought it was a splendid idea. Eating locally benefits the local growers, we’re keeping dollars in the community, it’s healthier, and we don’t have to spend money on fossil fuels.”Bartlett’s Farm and Moors End Farm, two of the island's biggest farms have stands at the market, but smaller Farms like Nantucket Native and Somerset Farm offer their delicious organic goods, like fresh beets, eggplant, and eggs as well.Craftsman and Farmers alike are excited about the future of the Farmers and Artisans Market on Nantucket. Next year, the farmers market will be extended to run throughout the summer and may even be able to set up shop on Sunday mornings on Main St. This year’s nine week pilot program started in August 11th and ran through October 6th and was open from 9AM to 12 PM at New School at 15 Nobadeer Farm Road.

This marked the first year for the annual Nantucket Farmers & Artisans Market. For nine weeks local farmers, artists, and crafters gathered outside the Nantucket New School to sell their goods to locals and vistors alike. Come along as we see what goods they've got for us all summer long.
