Tim Madden poses a question for the candidates.
The Nantucket Civic League is hosting a forum today to meet the candidates running for Selectmen, Town Planning Board, Nantucket School Committee and the Historic District Commission. Representatives from Nantucket's media outlets will hold a Q & A session with the candidates and as we distinguish Nantucket's most pressing issues, we're asking you (yes, you!) for help.
At the Nantucket Civic League's community forum, we learned some of the
hot issues for the 2008 Town Meeting: new zoning regulations, coastal
erosion regulations, and Historic District Commission regulations. From cost of living, to funding for our public schools, our island faces critical issues that will affect its long-term sustainability.
Take part in this discussion by taking our poll and submitting your
questions on our comment board below. The questions will be used at
this year's Meet the Candidates community forum.

How do you view the recent budget cuts to the Nantucket Public Schools? What do you plan on doing to attract and to keep teachers on the island?

With a school budget crisis looming there has recently been some discussion regarding instituting a "pay for play" policy for schools sports. Would you support such a plan?
I hear the land dispute
I hear the land dispute between the Shaw family and the Airport Commission discussed at last year's town meeting has still not been settled. If elected what would you do to ensure that the Commission follows through with their part of the deal they agreed to and is more responsive in the future?
Nantucket is becoming an
Nantucket is becoming an increasingly expensive place to live and work. What sorts of policies would you support to alleviate the burdens on both workers and employers?
I also want to know the
I also want to know the stance on the Nantucket Sound wind project. I grew up in Nantucket, and currently live in San Francisco. Just east of San Francisco there are several wind farms, and while I am all for clean energy, these monstrosities are truly hideous. It would be a shame to ruin the natural beauty of the Sound.
