On Wednesday, August 1st the Maria Mitchell Association celebrated their namesake's 189th birthday and her enduring impact on our community.
The MMA opened its doors free to the public at all of their Vestal Street Museums including; The Mitchell House, The Natural Science Museum, and The Vestal Street Observatory.
The MMA held special events, like a play starring Head Astronomer of the MMA, Dr. Vladimir Strelnitski and also had special baked treats.
“Maria Mitchell has left a legacy of learning and curiosity of the natural world that we try to convey through the Maria Mitchell Association.” Said Janet Schulte, Executive Director of the Maria Mitchell Association.
The Birthday celebration was just a glimpse into some of the great things going on at the MMA this summer.
Earlier this summer, Plum spoke with Dr. Strelnitski about the new telescope at the Loines observatory and also met with one of their interns, Rob Carr, who has become Nantucket's Snake Man.
