The 49th season of the Nantucket Musical Arts Society Summer concert series is well underway and it looks to be another wonderful year. On Tuesday, Plum strapped on our seatbelts and went on a vibrato ride on Emily Pulley’s Powerful Soprano voice. A metropolitan Opera star, Pulley performed classical works, Broadway tunes like “My Funny Valentine”, and finished the concert with an art song by local Nantucket resident and internationally renowned composer Ned Rorem, who is a mainstay of the Summer Concert Series. The St. Petersburg String Quartet performed on July 10th and exhibited the range of expression known to true Russian masters of technique. With strict attention to timbral effects and the interplay of parts, the St. Petersburg String Quartet brought pieces by Beethoven, Borodin, and Prokofiev to life. The Nantucket Musical Arts Society continues to bring world class performers to the Island.Howard Chadwick, Secretary-Treasurer of the NMAS said, “It’s very important to offer this great cultural and fabulous experience. People from all over the United States sort of plan their vacations around the concert series.”The Nantucket Musical Arts Society holds concerts every Tuesday at 8PM at the First Congregational Church. There is an informal “Meet The Artists” event most Mondays at 8PM in Hendrix Hall in the Unitarian Church.
