Flower Power: The Daffodil Parade

Adam Knee

Overcast skies didn't deter the crowds from coming out at this year's Daffodil Weekend Festival. Each Spring the locals and visitors come out in their finest flowers. The final weekend in April celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of the soon-to-be bustling spring and summer seasons.

Throughout downtown and out to 'Sconset, locals adorned their antique cars with blooms of fresh daffodils and décor. Businesses and restaurants opened their doors for the public to enjoy as part of the celebration. Over three million daffodils have popped up all over the Island as the spring crowds gather for the celebratory weekend.

Some of the highlights of this year's event included a pint-sized version of the famed festival -- The Children's Daffodil Parade -- where kids decorated their bicycles with flowers. Also, the Annual Tailgate Picnic followed the parade in 'Sconset, serving as the final resting point for visitors and participants to enjoy lunch and bask in the spring weather.
