Circus Flora is almost here, and Plum has all you need to know about the coolest event under the Big Top on Nantucket this summer.
For information on this event, and all others on the Island, take a look at our calendar.
Since 2004, the magical evening under the tent has been entertaining the Island's summer crowds. Founded in 1985 by Ivor David Baldin, Sheila and Sam Jewell and Alexandre Sacha Pavlata, "Circus Flora is about family, beauty, magic and inspiration. This is a circus with a soul," according to The Nantucket Atheneum's Web site.
Friday, July 27th begins the festivities out at Tom Nevers' field with the Opening Night Gala Under the Big Top. 5pm cocktails will be served, followed by dinner and a live auction. Some of the fabulous auction items include a 24-foot mural designed by Audrey Sterk, Red Sox vs. Yankees tickets for four, a private jet to a five-star hotel and resort in New York, Brunch with Dondi the elephant (and diva star of Circus Flora), and much more.
Following the auction and dinner is a preview performance of Circus Flora. The night will end with "sweet and savory fare" and music from Entrain.
Tickets for the Gala are: $1,000 for the dinner, preview performance, dessert and dancing, or $200 for the preview performance, dessert and dancing.
Saturday and Sunday are the main events for Circus Flora. From 5-7pm on Saturday, Circus Flora hosts a Family Barbeque Under the Big Top, sponsored by Cowboy's Meat Market. Cost is $15 for kids, $30 for adults.
Circus Flora continues on Sunday again at 3m and 7pm. The show is sold out for Saturday's 3pm performance.
For more information on Circus Flora, or to purchase tickets, the Atheneum Box Office at 1 India Street is opened Monday through Saturday 10am-4pm or call 508-228-1110, extension 107.
