A Look Back
With 2007 coming to a close, This Week on Nantucket takes a look back at the whole year. We're bringing your our favorite segments from each month of 2007.
Winter
Last January, we checked out the American Place Theater's rendition of The Kiterunner as part of the One Book One Island program. February brought the Plum crew to Nantucket Ice, and March we saw the christening of the new Steamship Authority's high-speed ferry, The Iyanough.
Spring
In April, Daffodil Weekend kept us busy with the classic car parade on Main Street and much more. May kicked off the summer with a suprise interview with Senator John Kerry down at Straight Wharf, plus a Memorial Day celebration to remember.
Summer
During June, we celebrated the amazing success of the Lady Whalers Softball team as they went head-to-head with Provincetown after their undefeated regular season. Circus Flora was in town in July with their star diva Dondi the Elephant, and Plum was there to capture all of the magic. Abrem's Quary Housing Lottery was another July event that helped families on Nantucket stay on Nantucket. August of 2007 saw a great deal of events, but nothing more riveting than Josh Ritter's performance on The MorningNoon&Night Show.
Fall
With the summer winding down, Plum's Roggg "Triple G" Woodruff hit the streets to see how much locals and visitors really know about Nantucket during September. The IOD World Championships is a prestigious sailing event held every year, and this past October, Nantucket was the host location for the first time in a dozen years. The end of October, ghosts, ghouls, and more were out on the town for the Annual Halloween Parade.
The Island Cup Rivalry was in full effect for Whalers High School Football in November, and, despite their tough loss to Martha's Vineyard, the Whalers played a good game. We got coaches Vito Capizzo (NHS) and Donald Herman (MVRHS) on camera to talk about memories past out on the fields. December brought the start of the cold weather to Nantucket, but we remembered the island's rich maritime history and How Nantucket Helped Light the World with NHA Executive Director Bill Tramposch.
Happy New Year's! See you in 2008!
