Cathy Lepore has been a part of the Nantucket Island community for more than 25 years. She currently aids the youth of our Island via the public school system as a school adjustment counselor.
Lepore remembers the exact day she and her husband Dr. Tim Lepore moved to Nantucket: "We were welcomed when we got off of the boat that cold January day," she said, explaining that's one of the many reasons she and her family have stayed all of these years. "We really feel like we're a part of hte community," she said, "It's a great place to raise our children."
Lepore, a mother of 3 children, also was the school nurse for many years. Eventually she went back to school for a Master's Degree, which brought her to the role she is now in.
"I love helping the parents, it's a really enjoyable part of my job," she continued, "Once you've been a parent you know. We all have strengths and we all have weaknesses."
Lepore counsels an average of 40 students each week, some in groups, some as individuals, all looking to her as a guide in their adolescent years.
"It's nice to see the kids as they come through middle school and high school, and see the progress they've made," she said.
