As Carlos Grangrade III enters his 31 year as the games room supervisor at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club, he reflects on some of the work that he’s accomplished.
“I hope that kids can deal with experiences that they have later on in life because of the experiences they’ve had here. I’ve taken a part of myself and put it into the community and the kids…we have to prepare these kids for the future.”
Throughout the years, Carlos has affected many young lives that have gone to the Club. He’s seen generations of families and noticed similar mannerisms. He’s been an active part of the fundraising and expansions, witnessing first hand what he loves most about the Nantucket community.
“I love the closeness of the community, how everybody pulls together and works together. We all have a voice in the community.”
“[My favorite memory] is the first time I came to Nantucket and how small the Island looked. Families came down to the boat and I knew there was a uniqueness to Island life.”
