2008 Nantucket Whalers Field Hockey.

The entire Whalers Field Hockey team are this week's Nantucket Nectars Student-Athletes of the week for their dedication on and off the field.

Coach Lori Moran has been impressed with her squad all season and describes her team as, "17 girls working towards one goal, taking on any role it was to benefit the team. [The team was led] by seniors that began preparing for their season in July when over a dozen members of the team went to a team camp and continued twice a week throughout the summer in pick up games, practicing into the night without a whisper of a complaint even when Sundays also became part of their practice week." The Field Hockey team made it to the second round of the playoffs and ended with one of the best records in school history.

Jamie Viera lost his father early on in the week and he elected to play Friday night. The team dedicated the game against Diman Tech to his dad.

Senior captain and midfielder Grace-Anne Tornovish is this week's Nantucket Nectars Student-Athlete of the week for her dedication on and off the field.

Nantucket High School Varsity Field Hockey coach Lori Moran has high praise for Grace-Anne's work ethic.
"Grace-Anne’s dedication is unmatched as she has yet to miss a practice, including the double sessions held in August and it has shown in her play on the field. Grace-Anne is responsible for patrolling the mid-field and in taking 75% of our free hits. Her offensive strength is one of the reasons our shots on goal have tripled since last year and why our goals scored in just 9 games is equal to our totals from 2008."

Sophomore Golfer Bram Daly is this week's Nantucket Nectars Student-Athlete of the week for his dedication on and off the field.

Nantucket High School Varsity Golf Coach Michael Horton has high praise for his star golfer, "Bram is our most dedicated golfer. He worked on his game a lot this summer and moved up from the number 5 to 2. He really is playing the best golf on the team, he has the lowest stroke average of 42 and he's been the medalist 4 times out of 7 matches."

NHS Girls' Basketball Team Continues to Impress

The Nantucket High School girls' basketball team continues their winning
ways in the '07-'08 season after an impressive run last year. Lead by 15-year veteran head coach Willis Ferreira, this Whalers' squad is focused on another exciting playoff run.
