Nantucket's creative community opened its arms yet again to embrace the art of poetry and spoken work during National Poetry Month. The entire weekend of April 4 through April 6, Nantucket Spoken Word brought us a weekend of poems and the arts.

Welcome to Verbatim, a re-telling of anything and everything on Nantucket through your own words. We accept photos, writing, and pretty much anything else that is an expression and celebration of the community we live in and the beauty around us. This week, poet Leonard Germinara of Spoken Word Nantucket shares his piece Ring Around the Moon.

Nantucket author Nat Philbrick spoke to a large crowd at The Whaling Museum on the history of Quakerism on the island as part of the Nantucket Historical Association's Brown Bag Lunch series. Afterwards, we got a chance to catch up with Nat to talk to him about his writing, what inspires him, and what the future holds for his writing.

Another chapter closed for Nantucket's annual One Book One Island event on Feb 10, bringing the local community closer to books and reading. This year's reading selections were Hemingway's classic tale The Old Man and The Sea, Rodman Philbrick's The Young Man and The Sea, and Island Boy, a children's book by Barbara Cooney.
