The story behind Nantucket Island’s classic and trendy style can be seen in just about any article of clothing worn down a cobbled road in the summer. From Nantucket Reds to polo shirts to navy-pants with pink whales embroidered in a meticulous pattern, calling the fashion on this island “distinguished” would be an understatement at best.

50 fabulously decorated ladies showed off their "mad hats" at their annual Mad Hat Luncheon. The event is run by the Ladies Union Circle of the First Congregational Church on Nantucket, and benefits local agencies including the Nantucket Girl Scouts and Habitat for Humanity on Nantucket, among others. Take a look and see some of the fun creations these women wore on their heads for the event.

If you weren’t there, we could say you didn’t miss much. But that would be a lie. This year’s Ms. Mantucket certainly lived up to its reputation of a wild and crazy time. Eleven participants, shall we call them “ladies”, got all dolled up and strutted their stuff at The Atlantic Café. It’s all for a good cause, as they helped raise almost $20,000 for the Nantucket Rotary Scholarship fund. Miss Sun Island, also known as Nick Duarte, was bestowed the title of Ms. Mantucket 2008.
