Nantucket High School Seniors Tomas Smaliorius and Anita Elahi were named 2008 Nantucket Scholars and awarded four-year full-tuition scholarships to a college of their choice.

The Annual Daffodil Festival Weekend will take place April 25-27 and is a celebration of spring on Nantucket. The end of the long, grey winters on the island comes when the daffodils begin to poke their heads out of the soil and the days start feeling a little longer, all a welcomed sign of the warmer months to come.

Magic Show: Juggling Basketballs

Magician Scott Jameson showed off with some magic tricks for Nantucketers in a packed auditorium on April 11. After doing two performances with an education twist for the schools earlier that day, Jameson gave a third show in the evening for the kids and their families for free. This is the 2nd year the Nantucket Atheneum has brought Jameson to the students and their families, and was yet again another success.

Mad Hat Luncheon 2008

50 fabulously decorated ladies showed off their "mad hats" at their annual Mad Hat Luncheon. The event is run by the Ladies Union Circle of the First Congregational Church on Nantucket, and benefits local agencies including the Nantucket Girl Scouts and Habitat for Humanity on Nantucket, among others. Take a look and see some of the fun creations these women wore on their heads for the event.

Nantucket's creative community opened its arms yet again to embrace the art of poetry and spoken work during National Poetry Month. The entire weekend of April 4 through April 6, Nantucket Spoken Word brought us a weekend of poems and the arts.

A Western Wind on Nantucket

The internationally acclaimed vocal sextet, The Western Wind, visited Nantucket for a performance at the Coffin School. The a cappella group’s repertoire includes music from the Renaissance era to fifties rock n’ roll.
