The Phoenix Project

The Phoenix Project brought together a fusion of local Island food & drinks, music and fashion all in one place on the evening of Monday, July 30th. MNXE Consulting, owned by Dawn Marie La Monica.

36 Hummock Pond Road's private estate was the place to be for A-listers and locals alike who wanted to be at the fashionable gathering. Whether you were there for models and the fashion, the fabulous hors d'ouevres, or the ambience with the local music in an anything-but-modest setting, you were sure to have a good time as the night progressed.

The night began at 6:00 with drinks provided by Triple Eight and Cisco Brewers paired with appetizers created by local chefs. Then, at 7:30 the catwalk was alive with bustling guests and models donning Island-inspired fashion. Jewelry and clothing designers included Little Miss Drama, Cheryl Fudge, MNXE, Beth English, and many more. Take a look at our slideshow below: even Mark Donato and Rhoda Weinman took a trip down the catwalk.

Following the event on the runway, Miss Fairchild put on quite a show for the crowd that was there to dance the night away at the poolside that is built inside of the private estate.

For more on Island-inspired fashion, stay tuned to Plum's Runway on our MorningNoon&Night Show and be sure to keep your browsers on Plum on the web soon when we release our upcoming guides section. For more events all summer long check out Plum's calendar.

The American Ireland Fund

The Westmoor Club on Cliff Road hosted the American Ireland Fund Sunday evening as they highlighted PeacePlayers International, their current choice for fundraising.

Many people were at the event to show their support for their cause on the balmy summer evening with distinct Irish music playing in the background. Among the guests was guest to be honored for the evening, Columnist and MSNBC Commentator Mike Barnicle. "[This event] is about getting kids, Catholics and Protestants, together," said the honoree, "One of the elements of this program is getting more kids together so they realize there really is no difference between them."

Peaceplayers International is based out of Washington, D.C. It is a program which uses the game of basketball to unite and educate children and their communities, according to PeacePlayers International Online. They encompass several countries, including Northern Ireland, South Africa and The Middle East.

PeacePlayers International also has plans to launch a program in Cyprus this coming fall.

The American Ireland Fund states, The Mission of The American Ireland Fund is to be the larges network of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland dedicated to raising funds to support programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout the Island of Ireland. "It's a very worthwhile endeavor, and one that we want to keep working at," said Senator John Kerry during the event.

Farewell Circus Flora

Circus Flora says farewell to the Gray Lady for yet another year, with sold out shows and audience members piling under the big top to see the greatest show on, well, Nantucket.

From acrobatics on ropes to hula-hoops piled waist high, this years' show was a treat for all ages. There were dogs stealing hats, a trio of tight-rope walkers, Nino the Clown on horseback, and we can't forget about the biggest diva of them all at Circus Flora, Dondi the elephant.

If you couldn't make it to the show this year, take a look at Plum's coverage on video in our links list, and be sure to check out our slideshow showcasing our up-close-and-personal interview with Dondi, coverage of the Circus Flora preview party, and, of course, some shots from under the big top.

Plum's Coverage of Circus Flora was brought to you by the Point Breeze.

Happy National Ice Cream Day!

Here's to wrapping up week ten of summer 2007 on Plum! This Sunday, we brought you some fabulous guests down at The Ropewalk for our MorningNoon&Night Show.

Besides our fabulous list of the top five ways to eat ice cream with the Juice Bar, we invited Laura Wasserman down at the show, Coordinator for the Peace and Justice Committee Speaker Series, as well showcased some music from River Bennett who is performing live on July 30th.

We brought you an interveiw with trainer Tom Holland to talk about the 9th Annual Nantucket Beach Fitness Camp, plus we sat down with NBC Chief Medical Correspondent Bob Arnot and discussed the documentary film Darfur.

Of course, since it's the end of the month, we couldn't forget July's fabulous Dog of the Month winner, Harry. Congratulations Harry, from Plum and Geronimo's of Nantucket.
