Cruisin' for Seals on Muskeget

Seal Cruise: Muskeget Point

As winter sets in and the Island starts to clear out, animals on Nantucket like Ducks in Madaket or Gray Seals on Muskeget are as active as ever.

The MMA and Shearwater Cruises are offering trips through the holidays to Muskeget, an Island off the western coast of Nantucket. Captain Blair Perkins guides the boat while Natural Science Director at the Maria Assocication Bob Kennedy narrates the expedition.

Nantucket is home to about 3000 of the Gray Seals, a species of Seal that started showing up on Nantucket 30 years ago and are normally twice as big as the common harbor seal that can be seen up and down the Jetties.

This particular time of year the Gray Seals gather on Muskeget Island to give birth to their pups (there are over 100 babies just days and hours old) .

Thanks to the Maria Mitchell Association and Shearwater Cruises for offering these incredible tours.

Family Fun at Nantucket Ice

If you're looking for some family-friendly fun check out the Nantucket Ice skating rink earlier in the day for their New Year's Skate Party. You and your kids can skate the afternoon away, plus enjoy some delicious refreshments and New Year's treats. It's an inexpensive but totally fun activity for the whole gang.

What's In The Box?

Our first pick for nightlife is The Chicken Box. Whether you're a salty local or a seasoned vacationer, The Box is the place to hear live music and dance up a storm, and the New Year's Party is no exception. D.J. Bri-Guy is keeping real on New Year's Eve with all of your favorites all night long.

Bamboozled on New Year's

A local favorite, and next on our list is Shannon's Bamboo Supper Club (508-228-0200). They're famous for Purple Hazes, their brand-new outdoor bar, and Shannon's lightning fast bartending skills. Like we said, be sure to play it safe that night, and print up this handy list of taxi cabs on the island.

Viva Las Vegas

Another stop on your cab ride around the island for New Year's Eve should be at The Rose & Crown (508-2
